Regular hydrant testing in accordance with DIN is not only mandatory, but is also extremely important for a reliable supply of extinguishing water in the event of a fire. In an emergency, a non-functioning hydrant can lead to a critical loss of time for fire-fighting operations. Hydrants should therefore be checked regularly and defects rectified as quickly as possible.
Hydrant testing according to DIN 14462
Wall hydrants with a dry riser must be tested every two years, while all other wall hydrants must be tested once a year. The standards for this are DIN EN 671-3 and DIN 14462.
A wall hydrant is a permanently installed water extraction point in buildings that can be used by both laypersons and the fire department.
Above- and underground hydrant testing according to DIN 14462
Above-ground and underground hydrants must also be checked once a year. The hydrant inspection must be carried out by a competent person in accordance with DIN EN 14462. The results of the hydrant test must be documented in a test logbook.
Underground and above-ground hydrants are used exclusively by the fire department to supply water in an emergency. An underground hydrant is anchored in the ground, while an above-ground hydrant is a permanently installed fitting for drawing water.
In addition, depending on the federal state, a further inspection of the above-ground and underground hydrants by an expert is required every three to six years in accordance with the Technical Inspection Regulations (TPrüfVO).
