Fire Protection Ducts

Fire protection ducts safeguard the functionality of important technical systems in the event of a fire.

Fire Protection Ducts

Fire Protection Ducts - Consultation, Implementation & Documentation

Fire protection ducts provide safe cladding for ventilation ducts, installation ducts, and electrical ducts. In the event of a fire, they prevent the spread of cable fires. They also ensure the functional integrity of critical ventilation systems or electrical systems such as emergency power supplies. In addition, they keep escape and rescue routes free of smoke. In this way, fire protection ducts actively contribute to the protection of people, animals, and buildings.

Requirements for fire protection ducts

Fire protection ducts are mandated for certain structural installations by the building permit and the fire protection concept. The relevant Model Administrative Regulation on Technical Building Requirements (MVV-TB) or the Cable Systems Guideline (LAR) specifies the requirements. The type of fire protection duct is determined depending on the load or the protection objective.

Types of fire protection ducts

  • Ventilation duct (L duct): The ventilation duct cladding protects ventilation systems and ventilation ducts in the building, e.g. smoke extraction ducts or kitchen exhaust ducts. This type of fire protection duct is available in fire resistance classes L30 and L90.
  • Installation duct (I duct): The installation duct withstands fire both from inside and outside. It thus protects electrical cables routed through a fire protection duct, and prevents the spread of fire if a fire occurs within the installation duct. In addition, an installation duct prevents fire, smoke, or toxic gases from spreading to other rooms. This type of fire protection duct is available in fire resistance classes I30 and I90.
  • Electrical duct (E duct): The cables of important electrical systems are protected from external fire exposure by the special material composition of the duct. Electrical installations worth protecting include, for example, fire alarm systems, firefighter lifts, emergency lighting, and emergency power systems. This fire protection duct is available in fire resistance classes E30 and E90.

All-round care package: We provide consultation, planning, and implementation of fire protection ducts. Upon completion, you receive documentation on request, including photos and descriptions of each individual fire protection duct. This gives you and your insurer the assurance that the fire protection ducts have been installed correctly.

Sustainability

Sustainable protection of the functionality of important ventilation systems or electrical systems, such as fire alarm systems, in a building.

Advantages

  • Protection of important electrical systems in the event of a fire
  • Depending on the fire protection duct, protection against fire escaping both outward and inward
  • Available in fire resistance classes F30 and F90
