Wall Hydrant Type F and Type S - Planning, Installation & Maintenance

Wall Hydrant Type F – for Self-help and for the Fire Brigade

A wall hydrant Type F is equipped with a reel and a rigid hose, making it just as easy for laypeople to use as a garden hose. In addition, there is the option to quickly and easily connect fire brigade pressure hoses.

Requirement for Extinguishing Water Transfer Points:

A direct connection of a wall hydrant Type F to the drinking water supply is not permitted. As a result, so-called extinguishing water transfer points (LWÜ) in the form of booster pump systems as well as filling and emptying stations are required. This also applies to existing extinguishing systems!

Wall Hydrant for “Trained Personnel”

A special version of the wall hydrant is available in combination with flat hoses. In principle, these can also be operated by anyone, but they require special training in which personnel are instructed in the particular handling of these devices.

Drinking Water Installation with Wall Hydrant Type S – “S” Stands for Self-help

Wherever the fire brigade employs alternative response tactics, the wall hydrant Type S can be used. These devices are intended for laypeople to carry out initial firefighting of incipient fires. Here too: just as easy to use as a garden hose, with a virtually “unlimited” amount of extinguishing water available. The advantage of these wall hydrants is that, due to the amount of water required, no additional extinguishing water transfer point is generally necessary. Direct integration into the drinking water installation is possible. Accordingly, devices of this type are, in addition to their efficiency, very economical.

Requirements for “Wet” Extinguishing Systems and/or Wall Hydrant Systems:

  • DIN 14462: Extinguishing water systems - planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of wall hydrant systems as well as systems with above- and below-ground hydrants
  • DIN 1988-600: Technical rules for drinking water installations - Part 600: Drinking water installations in connection with fire extinguishing and fire protection systems
  • Consideration of regional or site-specific requirements

Maintenance and Inspection of Wall Hydrants

Wall hydrants must be maintained at least once a year by a qualified specialist. In addition, inspection by an approved inspector must be carried out every three to six years, depending on the federal state.
