Fire protection bulkheads separate individual fire compartments and contribute significantly to the safety of a building. Openings for cables, pipes, and other media must be sealed to prevent fire from spreading. Only in this way can the spread of fire be prevented and protected areas (such as escape and rescue routes) kept clear.
How fire protection bulkheads work
The principle of the fire protection bulkhead is based on a fire protection compound that expands under intense heat (intumescence) and thereby seals gaps. This means fire transmission through pipes, cables, and other media can be prevented for at least 30 or 90 minutes.
Types of fire protection bulkheads
- Cable seals: Protection via panel seals, combination seals, cushion seals, mortar seals, foam seals, and fire protection blocks.
- Pipe seals: Protection via combination seals, mortar seals, collars, and pipe wraps.
- Cladding / enclosures: Cladding of fire protection equipment.
The above fire protection bulkheads are available in fire resistance classes F30 and F90.
