Underground Hydrant - Planning, Installation & Maintenance

Underground hydrants are fittings sunk into the ground and connected to the water supply. They are usually located beneath a street cover and are used by the fire brigade to draw extinguishing water on site.

Underground hydrants are marked from the outside with signs indicating their exact position. A standpipe, attached to the underground hydrant by means of a claw coupling, is needed to draw water. The main shut-off valve is operated from above using a hydrant key. The following variants of underground hydrants are available:

  •     Height-adjustable underground hydrants
  •     Telescopic hydrants (nominal sizes DN 80 and DN 100)

Maintenance of underground hydrants

Underground hydrants must be inspected at least once a year by a qualified expert. With a maintenance contract from CWS Fire Safety, regular maintenance is carried out automatically, ensuring that important deadlines are always met.

Important requirement for installation and operation: The regulations of DIN 14462 and the Drinking Water Ordinance apply to the installation and operation of underground hydrants. A direct connection to the drinking water system is not permitted in every case. We are happy to advise you on any questions relating to drinking water protection in connection with underground hydrants.
